ScriptTank 7 December – Call it Vienna by Michael Barry, Yonder Peasant by Alan Phillips

For the final ScriptTank reading of 2017, we have two pieces: Call it Vienna by Michael Barry and the Christmas-themed Yonder Peasant by Alan Phillips.

This week we’ll be meeting on Thursday.

Michael describes Call it Vienna as, “Even in the most terrible of situations, human beings fight between themselves for power and for life itself. In 1944, in a camp in Northern Germany, two women meet who have very different strategies for survival. One endures dumbly; one accommodates herself to the realities of her situation. One hopes their meeting will help her; one sees their meeting as a catastrophe. Will their meeting help them? How will each make use of the other? In the stark brutality of the camp, the wrong decisions could prove fatal.”

Alan’s Yonder Peasant takes another look at Good King Wenceslas. Was he really good? Was he really a King? A Bohemian Saint? Or was it all just 10th-century fake news?

We’ll be meeting at 6.45pm for a 7pm start on Thursday, 7 December. We do encourage members to arrive earlier to order food and drink from the venue before the reading begins.

There will be a £3 fee for this meeting.

15 December – ScriptTank Shorts Night and Festive Drinks

On the 15 December, ScriptTank will be holding a special Shorts Night – which we need scripts for – and our annual Christmas Drinks.

First, we’ll be hearing short scripts from a selection of writers. The works we’ll hear from will range from complete scripts for short films, web series as well as extracts from works-in-progress for TV, film and radio, and pitches of new projects.

If you are new ScriptTank member and haven’t had a chance to come to ScriptTank, you will give you the chance to see the range of styles and works ScriptTank can help you with. It’s also a chance to have your script read and receive feedback, and see what it’s like first-hand.

If you are a new member interested in submitting a script for the Shorts Night, please email Katharine Way. Your piece should be no longer than 20 pages (or minutes) long.

After the readings, members are invited to stick around for ScriptTank’s annual Christmas Drinks. The first drink is on ScriptTank.

The evening starts at 6:45 for a 7pm start at the readings are held upstairs at The Wheatsheaf pub, at 25 Rathbone Place, London, W1T 1DG, on 15 December.

There is a £3 fee for all members attending the reading.
