This week’s reading is ‘Land of the Midnight Sun’, an episode of the projected TV series Shadow Team, by Katharine Way
All sorts of services are contracted out. Rubbish collection, care homes…vampire hunting.
In the future, we live in a world where the hunting and killing of vampires, ghouls and demons is contracted out to private companies. One of these is the Shadow Team – James, Ben, Lissa and Robyn. They risk their lives (and souls) to keep the rest of us safe. Two of them go to a conference of vampire hunters in Helsinki, Finland. They’re far to the north – in summer, this is a place where there are only a few hours of darkness, and vampires are forced underground. But some of them fight back. Sometimes the term “corporate bloodsuckers” can be literally true. And as the team take them on, they’re affected by their own secrets. One of them is dying and has made a pact with the Devil. One is a projection. Even the vampire hunters are not always what they seem….
An action-adventure thriller with lashings of black comedy (and possibly ginger beer). If you liked Buffy the Vampire Slayer you’ll love this.
The reading starts at 6:45 for 7:00, above the Blue Posts pub, Rupert Street, nearest tube Leicester Square or Piccadilly Circus. There’s a £3 charge per session.
